Type choices that make websites feel faster

Fewer fonts, better spacing and a sensible fallback can make a page feel quicker without changing a line of code.

Speed is partly a feeling. A page that shows readable text immediately feels faster than one that is technically quicker but blank for a moment.

Three small rules

Use one family, two weights. Pick a fallback with similar proportions so nothing jumps. Give paragraphs room to breathe.

The result

Less layout shift, fewer bytes and a calmer page. The client noticed the feel before the numbers.
